Ben and Cami’s Trip to

The Hogel Zoo

March 6, 2004

This is a Degus.  According to the sign they’re supposed to be living

on every continent but I dunno, I’ve never really seen one myself.

This Camel was having some fur problems, but Cami says that all Camels are like that (and she did live

in the Middle-East for a while) so I decided to include it in the photo album anyway.

This is a Black-Footed Cat.  There were a lot of cat-sized felines in

this zoo but to by utter shock and amazement they were all taking naps.

Portrait of a Lady duck, and a Gentleman duck.

I actually took this picture of a Lynx by accident, but Cami

said it was cool anyway because the fur on his ear was really weird.

Okay, to me this looked like an ordinary Rooster (albeit a plump one) but

according to the plaque it’s a Red Jungle Fowl.  Ha ha, silly me!

This is a close-up of one of the Giraffes we saw.  I’ve always

wondered what those little horn-things on their heads are for.

This is a Canadian Goose.  You can tell because he honks in English and French.

This is a Scarlet Ibis.  I include his picture only because I

had to take 17 of them just to get this reasonably good one.

This is a Ring-Tailed Lemur.  Is that because his tail curls into

a ring or because there are black rings around his tail?

This was a really, really tiny lizard.  In fact, according to his plaque a large part of his diet consists of Mites.

This Meekrat was in a very Timone-like pose.

Like the “Rooster” you may have thought this was an ordinary Rabbit.  But that would be silly.

The sign said this was not a Rabbit, but rather a Rodent.  It’s actually called a Mara or Patagonian Cavy.

According to the girl next to us, this Orangutan looked like an Alien.  Hmm, yeah, I can see that.

This turtle was huge!  Easily large enough to ride (if the zoo-keepers hadn’t been watching).

Like most of the animals at the Hogle Zoo, this Porcupine was asleep.  Not that I’m bitter or anything.

This sign next to this animal said it was a “Rattleless Rattlesnake.”  Or as many of us would call it, a Snake.

This is called an Indian Star Tortoise because it’s from India and the yellow

things on it’s shell looks kind of like stars.  And also its shell is pointy, like a star.

Yep, this is all one snake.  This is called a King Snake and I can see why.

It’s as long as like, 3 normal sized snakes stuck together.

Cami says this picture is cool because the Turtle actually has blur lines.

Yep, this orange furry thing is indeed a monkey.

After his lengthy stint with Bill Waterson, Hobbs decided to settle down

here at the Hogle Zoo.  No, I kid.  Actually, I think this Tiger looks pretty beefy.

This is a guy-Turkey and a girl-Turkey.  I think if I were a Turkey, I would probably want to be a girl Turkey.

This is a Vingaroon.  Unlike a Scorpion it doesn’t have a stinger.  It just has

painful pinchers and can shoot acid out of its tail.
